Hours and scope.
The single biggest driver. One posting specified about 30 hours a month; others implied two to three days a week. Price the hours and the outcomes, not the title.
Posted pay for fractional CRO, sales leadership, partnerships and BD roles, from a supplied set of 32 anonymized postings, normalized and published as open data.
This is a supplied, anonymized dataset of 32 rows without posting URLs. It is not an independently verified market benchmark, and Rebar has not verified the postings or figures. The executive retainer median rests on only 3 monthly executive rows.
In a supplied, anonymized dataset of 32 postings (not an independently verified market benchmark) for fractional revenue and partnerships roles live in October 2026, the median posted rate was $100 per hour for hourly roles and $4K per month for retainers. Revenue-executive retainers (fractional CRO, VP of Sales, Head of Sales) ran $5K to $20K a month, with a median of $8K (based on only 3 monthly executive rows). 3 of the 6 postings titled fractional CRO did not disclose pay at all.
Bars show the posted range; the bronze mark is the median midpoint. Executive retainers vary most because scope varies most: a coaching-focused Head of Sales and a CRO carrying a target are priced very differently.
Scale: $0 to $20K per month. Ranges use the low and high posted figures; medians use each posting's midpoint.
Hourly pricing is most common for partnerships and BD leaders. The top of the range ($475 an hour) was for enterprise alliance strategy; the bottom (under $60) was for part-time, execution-heavy roles.
Scale: $0 to $500 per hour.
The single biggest driver. One posting specified about 30 hours a month; others implied two to three days a week. Price the hours and the outcomes, not the title.
Partner-ecosystem and alliance strategy commanded $200 to $475 an hour. Execution roles such as SDR or AE work ran $2,200 to $4,000 a month.
3 postings shifted pay into commission, upside or equity. Lower cash usually signals an earlier-stage company or a commission-first expectation.
Regulated or enterprise sales motions (healthcare fintech, federal, enterprise AI) skewed higher than SMB software or agency roles.

In our October 2026 sample, revenue-executive retainers ran $5K to $20K a month with a median of $8K, based on only 3 monthly executive rows in a supplied dataset that is not independently verified. One fractional CRO posting quoted an annual equivalent of $106K to $135K, and another offered a $50K to $80K base with significant equity. Scope drives the spread: hours per week, whether the role manages people, and whether it carries a number.
Across 11 hourly postings the median midpoint was $100 per hour, with a range from $35 to $475. The highest rates were for senior strategic work such as alliance and partner-ecosystem strategy; the lowest were part-time execution roles.
Companies often have not decided how to structure the role. Some want to negotiate a mix of retainer, commission and equity. Others are testing the market. If you are hiring, publishing a range attracts more experienced candidates and shortens the process.
Usually, on cash cost. A fractional leader is paid for a defined share of time and typically carries no benefits, recruiting fee or long notice period. The tradeoff is capacity: a fractional leader can set strategy, run the operating rhythm and coach, but cannot be in every deal. Compare the scope you need, not just the monthly number.
3 postings in our sample tied pay to commission, upside or equity. A performance component can align incentives, but commission-only arrangements tend to attract less experienced operators and push the work toward short-term deals. A common middle ground is a base retainer plus a bonus tied to an agreed milestone.

We collected 32 public postings for fractional, part-time or contract revenue roles (CRO, VP or Head of Sales, partnerships, channel and business development) that were live in October 2026. Sources included LinkedIn, Upwork, Workable, ZipRecruiter, Indeed, Wellfound, GoFractional, Fractionus and company career pages. We kept the pay exactly as posted and grouped it as hourly, monthly retainer or annual equivalent. Medians use the midpoint of each posted range. Role tiers come from the posted title.
Limitations: this is a small, US-focused sample of posted budgets, not accepted offers. Posted budgets often run below what experienced operators accept. Treat the figures as a market reference point, not a quote. We add new postings monthly and keep prior editions available.
